Karaoke

Yesterday was my 39th birthday and to celebrate I went out for karaoke with some of the play group moms. Yep, the husband stayed home with the kids even though I know in his heart of hearts, he wanted to be there!

We went to the chain called Quaker Steak and Lube--real classy. I started out with "Dancing Queen" and Ronda followed with "All I want to do" by Sheryl Crow. It was Ronda's birthday, too. Our friend, Christy, didn't sing, but her bday is in October, so we have a few months to work on her. :) Jen was there as well as a lady named Dana. It was nice to get out and pretend that I'm hip like the 20 somethings (even if I didn't recognize one song that they sang). Yeah, I'm old and realize I could have been their mother!!

I hope to put some photos up later. Happy Wednesday. Whew! I could use a nap.

Happy Birthday to us....

The Saturday dinner party was a success. The food turned out great. My husband actually made most of the menu this year. I made the wonderful chocolate ganache cake that is an Ina Garten's recipe. The evening started out with Pomtinis. It is the current thing that I am into. I first tasted Pomegranate Martinis at Zaytina's in Washington, D.C. with my friend in July 2006. So, I thought it would be a lot of fun to start off with those Saturday night. Well, let's just say, the martini was a hit.

The menu consisted of stuffed pork roast, braised spinach with toasted walnuts and sweetened cranberries and mashed sweet potatoes made with sauteed garlic, fresh ginger and onion.

It was a wonderful evening with our friends. I'm still counting down to the 27th, however! :)

Bopple juice

Don't you just love the words that come out of kids' mouths when they can't quite pronounce everything? "What do you want to drink, Clay?" His response, "Bopple juice." "Apple juice?" "Yeah," he says. Another thing he has said while he is eating the white of a boiled egg: "I gave Bobby my oke." Oh, you gave Abbey your yoke. Kids say the darnedest things. And we can't forget the "bitch and the water." Hum, you say. Well, think back to the Wizard Of Oz and remember someone throws water on the witch. Yep, we got a laugh out of that one.

So, it's Friday, the husband got home from his trip. All is well. I've got a busy weekend planned. I will cook a big birthday dinner for two other couples and it will take all day Saturday to prepare. I actually enjoy that!

Take a breath....

It's Thursday. Yep, the day I don't have to be anywhere. I can wear my PJs as long as I want . Of course, by 1 PM, the kids and I are really bored! So, it's nice to have something planned for the afternoon.

Did you just love American Idol last night? My favorites were Melinda, Stephanie, Jordin and LaKisha. I do wonder how some of those people made it that far? I guess it's harder than it looks. And I wonder what will happen on The Office tonight?

Just two more days and the hubby will be home. Yeah! It's hard work putting those kids to bed at night! OK, not that hard when you let them fall asleep watching American Idol. And I actually have a baby-sitter for tonight so I can get out to catch a movie. Thank goodness for DVD recorders.

Happy Thursday. :)

American Idol tonight!

I'm looking forward to the girls singing tonight. I enjoyed the show last night. Even my kids watched it with me. Well, let me rephrase that. My kids wouldn't go to sleep, my husband is out of town, and I did what was easiest for me. My daughter eventually fell asleep on the couch and my two year old was all but begging me to put him back into bed. That will teach them to say they can't go to sleep. So back to the show. I thought Blake was the best. And I thought Simon was a little rough with some of his comments, but honest. If they can't take that from Simon, then they will never make it in the entertainment industry. OK, what do I know.

So today I took the kids to this indoor jungle gym. I'm looking forward to the day when they play and they don't want me in it! I want to be lazy and drink my coke! But we had a good time and with the husband away, it's less time with the three of us together to get on each other's nerves.

So, enjoy American Idol tonight. And tomorrow is The Office. Oooh, so much to look forward to...

I love a movie that makes me cry.....

From laughing so hard. We saw one of the funniest movies last night. Oh my gosh! It was "Little Miss Sunshine". At one point, I had to wipe the tears from my eyes. I guess I have a strange sense of humor, but this movie is really good. I think the last movie I liked this much was "The 40 year old virgin". Steve Carell can play a serious guy just as well as he can play a funny guy. And Greg Kinnear, who doesn't like him?

Well, off to play group today. I look forward to Tuesdays.

I'm back from hanging out with the moms ALL DAY. Great therapy.

The countdown begins......

A week from tomorrow, I turn 39! Wow! I'm planning a karaoke night out with the play group moms. My husband absolutely refuses to go with me to karaoke, so he gets to hang with the kids! This coming Saturday is my annual February Birthday Dinner. For the past few years, we have invited two other couples over for dinner since each couple has a person with a Feb Birthday. I cook a big, fancy meal and we enjoy fun and food. Our kids play together and it's a good time.

So, let the countdown begin.

Music, music, and more music

Last night, we had tickets to this concert. The musician was Sam Bush and his genre is folk, blue-grass, country, and some rock. He has been around a long time, and wow, it was an all out jam session. The guy played over two hours straight. I love live music! When I grow up, I want to be a singer in a band! I think I bobbed my head the whole time and clapped for a lot of it. The concert was held in the renovated State Theatre. There wasn't a bad seat in the house. There were 4 other musicians in his band and each one could hold a concert on his own. We were in the presence of pure, raw talent.

Ahhhhhhh! What a way to spend a Saturday night!

"Baby, it's cold outside..."

Wow! It's cold here in PA. Whew! We enjoyed the company of some our play group friends today. It was great to get out of the house. I'm so glad to have them.

I don't know how much snow we got in total, but it was a bunch.

Snow, snow, and more snow......

We woke up today to a bunch of snow. My husband's lab was closed, so we all enjoyed the day. We went sledding with a neighbor and her children. It was really cold and windy but I think the kids had a good day and, of course, are full of chocolate today!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Tuesday, February 13, 2007

It's the day before Valentine's Day and the snow has been coming down all day. The kids are a little stir crazy (as is their mom). It's a beautiful snow but I can't help but wish my life away to spring. And better yet, summer. I love warm, dry days. I miss the warm, hot days of summer in my homestate of Arkansas. But back to reality. I am in a funk with this weather. The days are long. I watch the clock a lot. I know time flies and I will look back at this time that I stayed home and wonder, "where did all the time go?"
