Yesterday, I was saddened to hear that Elizabeth Edwards has bone mets. In layman's terms, her breast cancer has spread to her bones. And they said, possibly, to her lungs. If that is the case, that is not good. Anyway, I have seen countless women in the same boat when they come into the hospital for a Nuclear Medicine bone scan. The woman will receive an injection of a radioactive pharmaceutical that will be taken up by the bone and then return a few hours later for the scan. It is the best test to look for bone metastases. What makes me sad is that she is young and has young children.

On a much shallower note I am sad that Tennessee lost last night to Ohio St. And by one stinking point. I didn't watch the game because I would rather sleep after 10 pm, but I heard the Vols were up by 17 at one point. So, last night I got 3 out of 4 on by bracket. According to my mom, Tennessee deserved to lose after blowing a lead like that. You tell 'em, mom.

And this week had some highs and lows with my 4 year old daughter. Wednesday, she told me she hated me and wished that daddy stayed home and that I went to work. But today she told me that she missed a particular teacher that left to stay home with her newborn. I explained that when a woman has a baby, she can 1) go back to work and take the baby to a babysitter or 2) stay home with the baby and take care of the baby. She quickly replied that when she has a baby she will stay home and take care of it.

exasperated

I cannot figure out how to add a photo to my profile! I will work on this for a while. I have looked up the "help" for it, but to no avail. I am an idiot when it comes to computers...

MOPS and more

Today was the first meeting of the local chapter for MOPS International. It stands for mothers of preschoolers and is open to moms with kids from birth to age 5. I really liked it. It is a non-denominational, Christian organization. I think anyone would be comfortable there. There were people there to watch our children while we got to know each other, do a craft and eat. Not bad, huh? I would encourage any mom with young children to check it out.

It is the first day of Spring. Yeah!!!! And it is sunny in Central Pa. That is not always a given. I can't wait until the days get warmer.

Some days you just have to say "Snap out of it"

So, today started out as one of those days where I have to say over and over (in my head), "just snap out of it". Occasionally, I get in a funk with my kids and get irritated easily. I do drink a lot of coffee and, perhaps, those days I should not drink as much. But, the day got better because it was Play group day. It is a catharsis to sit around with other women in a similar situation and gab. We are all different, but yet we have a lot in common, too. The group didn't disband until 4 pm today.

The other thing on the schedule today was a little trip down the road to the taxidermist. Yes, you read it correctly. You see, my husband got his first buck this last November. He is more of a bird hunter (grouse, ducks, pheasant, turkey), but does like to go out for opening day for deer. This year he got his buck around 10 in the morning. I don't think I've seen an individual any more excited than he was that day. And before I could say anything about it, he had already taken it to the taxidermist. I guess I'm OK with it. It is not such a foreign thing to me. I grew up with a buck staring right down at me while I watched TV. To contrast that image, I can't imagine my in laws every dreamed their prep school, ivy league kid would ever want that on his wall. They will get to see it in two weeks. So, I am posting the picture here for my play group moms to see. I want them to be prepared for the next time I host.

And the last thing I got to do tonight was watch a little bit of American Idol. I'm so addicted and I wonder how some of those people got on there. I don't care enough to vote, but I love watching them and hearing what Simon Cowell has to say. He is usually right, I might add.

March Madness...

Well, this past weekend was a great one with all the basketball. I still have my final four in the tournament. It will be a long week until Thursday but I'll make it. My Razorbacks (aka 'little piggies') didn't do so well but I don't think they were expected to. There are two out of four SEC teams left with Kentucky losing to Kansas. Bad for the SEC, but good for my bracket. I had Kansas picked to beat Kentucky. I can be objective when there is money involved. (I mean --when there is competition involved). So, Tennessee and Vanderbilt are still there. I have Tennessee picked for an upset against Ohio State. I'm all for the Big 10 losing! The Big 10(11) egos get to me. I can't stand the low scoring bball games, either. It's tough being an SEC basketball fan in Big 10(11) football country. Oh, it wasn't too bad when Florida beat Ohio State for the National Title in Football this past January. OK, enough already.

My daughter went back to preschool today after a week of spring break. Whew! I am so out of practice. As crazy as the week was, I still like it when I don't have a schedule! Fly by the seat of my pants kind of a person!

Happy Monday to everyone.

More snow

I've got some photos of the kids and Pete playing in the snow. I was called in to work on Saturday and came home to this.

I need coffee...

My Razorbacks don't play until very late tonight. I will need some caffeine to stay up. I hope they make a good showing. And wow, Duke is out. That's a blessing and I'm so glad I didn't pick them to be in the final four. I am entered in two different pools.

About the weather. I can't believe this snow storm has come in. I want warm weather so bad. I am a 'fish out of water'. I thought that would be a good name for this blog. So, it's Friday there is basketball (and snow) in the air. It has been spring break here so the kids have been hanging around the house in their jammies. I so love not having to be anywhere at a certain time. A perfectly content couch potato.

So, some random thoughts for the day. I better go check out the games and see how my teams are doing. Go Hogs!

Pie Are Square...

Today is National Pi Day. (I think that is how you spell it). Get it. 3.14. Pretty cool, huh? I heard this on "All things considered" this afternoon. They had the world record holder for memorizing the most digits of pi on the show. I could never do something like that. Good grief! But, it takes all kinds (to make the world go around). I still get into number things. Like 7-14-7 is my wedding anniversary this year. It won't be 7 years, that would just be way too neat. It will be six. I'll try to think of some more interesting number things.

And it is count down to March Madness! Go Hogs Go! Can't wait to watch basketball all weekend!

One more thing. I was buying dog food in Walmart today and I was singing to the music they were playing overhead. I ended up buying some Dove chocolates (promises or something). I just had to take a picture of the wrapper. I thought it was funny. I mean, really, do people need to be told to sing to the elevator music?

Wonderful Sunday--full of surprises!

Yesterday was a great day. The kids and I went to church while my husband helped some friends tile their bathroom. The only reason he got out of church was that I was throwing a surprise party for him and I needed him out of the house! Well, I was successful! The cake had a picture of him on it from when he was about 2 or 3. So cute. Pete actually turned 40 today.

The other surprise was the Arkansas Razorbacks made it into the NCAA basketball tourney. I am excited, but now it means I will have a month of biting my nails. In some ways, it is more relaxing when they don't make it. I can pick some team that doesn't matter to me and sit back and enjoy. So, here we go. The SEC did not make a great showing this year. Usually, they are at the top with the number of teams going.

And one more surprise. Rob and Amber were eliminated from "The Amazing Race." What a disappointment. They were the team that I was pulling for. Life goes on.

Beautiful weather is putting me in the mood for spring. I am so happy Daylight Saving Time is here. Hooray! Roll on Spring!

Girl Scout cookies are here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I didn't bake them, but I love to eat them. They take me back to when I was in second grade and I was a Brownie. I sold cookies until sixth grade. During my sixth grade year, our school principal held a contest to see who could sell the most cookies. The winner from each class would get to do something very special. Well, I remember this because I was the winner from sixth grade. In my state, Girl Scout Cookies were delivered just before Valentine's Day. This particular year the scouts that sold the most got to deliver homemade valentines to the patients at the local Veterans Hospital. Our elementary school made homemade valentines. What a treat to miss school and go on a field trip. But, the best part was seeing the joy in the patients' faces. Every year, I think I have bought enough until I open the first box. I always get Thin Mint and Peanut Butter Patties. Let's just say, that I am already planning on buying more.

New Title of Blog

I think I am going to change the name of my blog. My husband said it sounded too whiny. Maybe he is right. So, I'm working on a new title.
